Originally from Medellin, Colombia, Ling Lopez began her violin studies at BSM studying with Eva Leon and Naho Parrini as part of BSM’s Music Access Project (MAP). In addition to her position at BSM, Ling is also a violin instructor at UpBeat NYC, an “El Sistema” inspired program in the South Bronx. Ling completed professional development and youth development training with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s as well as the Arts and Passion-Driven Learning program with the Silk Road Project.
Ling enjoys playing chamber music and orchestral music and her favorite composers include Bach, Beethoven and Barber. In the summer of 2018 she held an orchestra residency with the Orquesta Metroplitana in Caracas, Venezuela. In addition to classical music she also loves performing latin music.
As a teacher she makes connections between learning music and the overall development of young people. “I strive to inspire students by showing them the interconnectedness of things. I want my students to understand that what they learn in music is connected and relevant to their personal lives and to their development as human beings.”
