Open to singers ages 13-18, this new ensemble will focus on group vocal renditions of songs from various contemporary genres of music including jazz, pop, R&B, rock, soul and folk. Students will develop skills such as proper vocal technique, blend, group dynamics, music reading, and the ability to sing in 2-, 3- and 4- part harmony. Singers will also work on musical independence, and explore using their voices as instruments to assume the roles of bass, drums, etc. Group members are encouraged to contribute their own repertoire suggestions and arrangements, so that the direction of the ensemble represents the individual tastes, personas and voices of its members. The ability to sing on pitch is necessary, and a basic understanding of music notation and sight-reading a helpful pre-requisite for students interested in enrolling.
